A Few Words from Sonia
I am deeply honored that my longtime mentor and friend, internationally acclaimed spiritual teacher and intuitive guide Sonia Choquette, has written the Foreward to Dancing with My Inner Genie. Her words beautifully open the door to the journey that follows.
Being inundated with material pressure sometimes makes it hard to find your way back to your spirit. And when that material pressure unexpectedly (or miraculously depending on how you look at it) drops into your life, like it did for Kailani Joy, it can create a perfect storm of catastrophic events. But catastrophic events don’t always mean catastrophic endings, if you are open enough to the divine guidance we are always afforded to weather the storm. And Kailani is the poster child for this. It was in the face of a $200 million lottery jackpot where Kailani was tested most. What should have been one of the most celebrated moments in her life turned into one of the most troubled times she would ever face. And that’s saying a lot, as Kailani’s life has been anything but easy. Yet despite the drama and despair, Kailani was able to come home to her spirit and truly tap into her soul, turning a devastating ending into a beautiful beginning, which comes as no surprise to me. A child of trauma, Kailani has always defined herself by her spirit and the miracles life has shown her rather than the pain she has experienced. Refusing to fall too long into the victim trap, she has consistently shown up in every trial and asked, “What can I learn? How can I grow? How can I turn what has happened into an opportunity, not just for myself but for others?” Having been through so much of my own personal trauma, I realize the incredible determination it takes to face these life-altering events honestly, to let our dearest dreams die, and to see the path toward a new beginning in every ending. And this is exactly what Kailani has done. I have witnessed her do this firsthand as I have worked personally alongside her for the better part of a decade. It is important to realize, that the world can be cruel in their judgment of others. In some ways, it has been cruel to Kailani, just as it has many of us. And it takes a tremendous amount of heart, love, and generosity of soul to make your life work. We are a culture focused on the victim rather than the victor. Victimhood is constantly being projected upon us and is all too easy to succumb to. Kailani has had every opportunity to embrace this cultural coddling, yet she has refused to do so, turning every challenge into a moment of self-examination and self-actualization. And this is what I love most about her. Her fortitude in the face of judgment is unparalleled, and she has earned my utmost respect in the graceful way she’s overcome true pain and discouragement. In spite of all she has faced, Kailani has persevered, remaining positive, loving, and willing to witness the goodness in every outcome, while seeing the beauty in every twist and turn of her journey. Not only that, she has harnessed the courage to share her vulnerable story in the desire to give back to others the way she sees the universe has so abundantly blessed her. Dedicated and consistent, she has chosen to stay the course for what real transformation takes. She has pledged years of her life to her spiritual practice, working alongside me and many other amazing teachers in qigong, breath work, meditation, and more. She has been faithful to the deep work needed to truly heal and liberate ourselves from the limiting beliefs and traumatic experiences that create the storyline of our lives in our most formative years. Kailani never stops learning, every day asking herself and the universe how she can improve. I have personally watched her grow, work hard, and remain steadfast in her journey, constantly falling back on forgiveness rather than fear for the pain she has and continues to experience. Kailani has inspired me with her ability to be a true expression of self, even when so many people have disappointed her and her generosity has failed in its quest for healing. Kailani’s story deserves to be shared, and I have encouraged her wholeheartedly in telling her truth, as I know she will empower countless others who have faced great setbacks, traumas, and heartaches like herself. It’s a story that will bring awareness to the false narrative that material success heals all. It is in her journey where the power of spirit truly shines. And it is in her telling of it that her true power lies. It is in stories like Kailani’s that the true character of the soul speaks, and it is only those who have faced the worst and found their way out who can speak of it. Kailani demonstrates this tenfold. Her character, resilience, and fortitude exemplify the most admirable qualities of the soul. And you can trust her because she has been to hell and back. She has walked the walk and come out on higher ground much to her own credit. And for this, she has earned every right to stand among the most celebrated teachers of the human experience. All my love, Sonia Choquette
Buy the Book
Perhaps some books find us when we are ready for them.
There are books we read and place back on a shelf.
And then there are books that somehow become companions.
We return to a passage because life has changed since the last time we read it. A sentence means something different. A question we barely noticed before suddenly feels as though it was waiting for us.
That is my hope for Dancing with My Inner Genie.
Not that you will read my story and find answers for your own.
But that somewhere within its pages, you might become a little more curious about the questions already stirring inside you.
Perhaps you will recognize something familiar in a loss, an unexpected turn, a moment of synchronicity, or one of those inexplicable little miracles that makes us stop and wonder whether life might be speaking to us in ways we have forgotten how to hear.
Perhaps an old dream will tap you on the shoulder.
Perhaps you'll remember something about yourself.
Or perhaps you'll simply spend a little while seeing your own life through a different lens.
Come into the garden.
Find a comfortable place.
Stay awhile.
There is no hurry here.
A book doesn't have to change your life to become meaningful.
Sometimes it simply keeps us company while we are changing it ourselves.
And sometimes, somewhere between the first page and the last, we discover that a conversation has quietly begun.
Not with the author.
With ourselves.
If the Book Is Calling to You
Perhaps something within these pages is already calling to you—
a question,
a remembered dream,
or simply the quiet possibility of seeing your own life through a different lens.
